Evans Senior Living Community is currently hiring a part-time Certified Medication Aide.

The Certified Medication Aide provides high-quality direct daily care and assistance to the residents in the Facility. Duties may include assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, toileting/incontinence, feeding, and bathing. The position is responsible for observing and reporting changes in the resident’s physical and emotional conditions to the charge nurse. This position is responsible for administering prescribed medications, maintaining proper documentation, and observing residents for adverse reactions.

The duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Administer medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the ‘Five Rights’ of medication administration.
  • Take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.
  • Record the administration of medications appropriately.
  • Observe and report any reactions or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse, charge nurse, or the Director of Nursing.
  • Communicate the need for a PRN medication to the licensed nurse. PRN medications are to be administered and effectiveness evaluated by the licensed nurse.
  • Dispense and account for narcotics under the supervision of the licensed charge nurse according to facility policies and standards.
  • Consistently work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, treatment nurses, restorative assistants, physicians, families, consultant personnel, and ancillary service providers.
  • Recognize changes in residents’ conditions and communicate those changes to the Charge Nurse and/or Director or Nursing
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Seventy-five (75) hour Nursing Assistant course with State of Iowa Certification. Must also participate in ongoing continuing education.
  • Successful completion of a DIAL-approved medication aide course, or passed a DIAL-approved medication aide challenge exam administered by an Iowa community college.
